Real Cemetery Tours
Many of you have enjoyed the virtual tour on this Web site and have returned often to this virtual tour to visit your ancestors' graves when you can't visit in person. In response to your excellent suggestions, we began a series of real Cemetery Tours in March 2006 to provide an opportunity for us to visit the graves of our loved ones in person. Because of the popularity of these real tours, we extended the tour schedule through 2006 - 2018. We plan to continue these tours throughout 2019 also. These tours provide an excellent opportunity to honor the memory of the entire Perth Amboy Jewish Community of yesteryear; learn interesting historical information about these cemeteries, those interred there, and the community in which they lived; locate the graves of your relatives (if you don't already know where they are); and observe the current condition of the cemeteries and our progress in restoring them. In addition, we have added a few prayers and poems to enhance the memorial tribute. We always say Kaddish at each cemetery. Several families have arranged in advance to attend these tours as a group, and this has enabled many attendees to enhance their experience by seeing cousins they hadn't seen for a long time and, in some cases, meeting cousins they had never met before.
We always try to select dates that we hope will be both attractive and convenient for as many people as possible.
Cemetery Tours have been scheduled on the following Sundays in 2019:
- May 12 (Mother's Day) - rain cancellation
- June 16 (Father's Day)
- October 6 (between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur)
We hope you will be able to join us at one or more of our tours, and we hope you will invite your friends and relatives to come too.
The tours are free, and all are welcome and invited to attend. Advance registration is recommended, so that we can notify you of any changes (bad weather or other emergencies, etc.). You can register for a tour by phone (at 856-222-1418), by e-mail (to FPMCJC@gmail.com, or by clicking on the "Contact Us" button on the left menu.
